Federal phone and internet support

Could Lifeline lower your monthly phone or internet bill?

Checked October 31, 2026 · Verify current eligibility and participating providers with USAC before applying.

Potential benefit: Eligible subscribers may receive up to $9.25 per month toward a qualifying phone, broadband, or bundled service. Eligible residents of qualifying Tribal lands may receive up to $34.25 per month. This is a service discount, not cash.

Who may qualify

USAC says a consumer may qualify through household income or participation in a qualifying program. In the 48 contiguous states, D.C., and territories, the 2026 income limit is 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines:

Qualifying programs include SNAP, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing Assistance, and Veterans and Survivors Pension benefits. Additional programs apply to qualifying Tribal lands. USAC may request documents to verify eligibility.

Important limits to check

Do not confuse Lifeline with the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). ACP ended on June 1, 2024. Lifeline is a separate program with separate eligibility and enrollment. Be cautious of websites that still advertise new ACP enrollment or ask for personal information to claim an ACP benefit. Check current Lifeline information through USAC.

How to check safely

  1. Review the official USAC eligibility rules and use the National Verifier.
  2. After eligibility is confirmed, find a participating phone or internet provider serving your address.
  3. Ask the provider for the exact plan, full monthly price after Lifeline, data or speed limits, equipment charges, and cancellation rules.
  4. Compare the remaining out-of-pocket cost with your current plan. Do not switch until you understand any device balance, number-transfer steps, or service gap.
