Ohio electricity comparison

Compare the whole electricity offer—not just its cents per kWh.

Reviewed October 31, 2026 · The official benchmark below is limited to Ohio Power Company (AEP Ohio) and its stated period.

Current reference: The PUCO chart lists Ohio Power Company’s residential generation Price to Compare at 10.19¢/kWh for October 1 through December 31, 2026. This is the generation supply portion only. It is not a statewide rate or a forecast of your total bill. Confirm your utility and current Price to Compare on your own bill and in the official chart before comparing.

Ohio households may be able to choose an electricity supplier, while the local utility continues to deliver electricity over its wires. A lower advertised supply rate can still cost more after monthly fees, an introductory period, a rate change, or an early cancellation charge. Compare the same usage and time period, and read the supplier’s contract and disclosure sheet.

Estimate the supply cost and listed fees

Enter the rates from your current bill and the offer’s written terms. This tool compares the generation/supply portion plus the fees you enter; it does not predict your full bill or verify eligibility.

Use a recent bill or a reasonable average for your home.
Find your utility’s current supply benchmark. Ohio Power Q4 2026: 10.19¢.
Enter the written rate for the plan and term you are considering.
Use the guaranteed rate period; do not treat a variable rate as guaranteed.
Use the contract’s stated renewal rate. If it is unknown, use a conservative estimate and compare scenarios.
Include only required monthly fees not already built into the rate.
Include any fee you expect to pay to leave your current contract or start the new one.
Choose the same horizon for both options.

Check the official comparison before enrolling

The PUCO’s Apples to Apples charts show current supplier offers and contract terms by utility territory. Its guide says to compare against the Price to Compare on your bill and notes that changing suppliers before your current contract expires may trigger an early termination fee. Ask whether the supplier is PUCO-certified, whether the rate is fixed or variable, what fees apply, and what happens after the contract ends.

Important limits: This estimate holds your monthly usage and utility benchmark constant. It excludes distribution charges, unentered taxes, future changes to utility or supplier rates, variable-rate risk, eligibility, and plan-specific terms. It does not enroll or switch anyone. The form runs in your browser; entries are not submitted to Low Bill Lab.
